Preparing Yourself for Evangelism

  • Check your own relationship with God.
In order to be an effective agent of God, you need to ensure that your personal relationship with God is right, that God is pleased with you.
  • Ensure your motives are right.
Be clear that you are doing it for God’s glory, for the salvation of the lost, and not to satisfy your own selfish motives.
  • Ensure you have clearly understood the Gospel message and that you know how to explain it simply.
    (See "What is the Gospel?")
  • Remember that making disciples is God’s non-negotiable commandment to all Christians.
Jesus said in Matthew 28:19,20, "So go and make followers of all people in the world. Baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach them to obey everything that I have taught you, and I will be with you always, even until the end of this age."
  • Remember that you are only an instrument of God.
You are simply to allow yourself to be used by God to convey the gospel clearly.
It is the Holy Spirit's job to convert the child, in His own timing.
  • Remember there are other instruments of God.
Some plant, some water, some harvest.
Don't be disappointed if the child is not ready to accept the gospel there and then.
  • Pray. Pray. Pray.
Ask God to use you for the furtherance of His kingdom.
Ask God to drive the presentation and give you the right words to say.
    Pray for the child's salvation.
